About This Poem
Many years ago, before we had smartphones, we used to send “smilies” in our text messages using something called “emoticons,” where you would use a few symbols to represent facial expressions. I thought they were kind of cute, so I wrote a poem about a character named “Brody the Emoticon.”
A few years later, smartphones were invented and emoticons got replaced with “emojis,” graphic representations of facial expressions and many other things. So I wrote a new poem about another character called “Joe the Emoji.”
Recently, a publisher asked me if I could write another kind of emoji poem, one where kids could decipher the meanings of the emojis based on rhymes, so I wrote several poems for them to choose from. The selected one of the other poems, but this one was my favorite, so I thought I would share it with you here. I hope you enjoy it.
