
Well, hello again, poetry lovers! It’s time for another roundup of news from the wonderful world of children’s poetry. Here’s what’s been happening around the kidlit poetry blogosphere this week.
Children’s Poetry Summit
The Children’s Poetry Summit featured an article by Emma Dai’an Wright, where she discusses how The Emma Press expanded into children’s poetry, starting with themed anthologies, solo collections, and translated works, with a goal of introducing new talent and international voices to the UK children’s poetry scene.
Danna Smith Book Blog
Danna Smith shared the exciting news that her book, Zenguin, has been selected by the Junior Library Guild, giving readers something to look forward to when it releases on January 6, 2026.
David L. Harrison
David L. Harrison has been keeping busy as always! He announced that his article about the importance of stories in children’s literature has been accepted for publication by The California Reader. He has also added two new recordings to the Poetry from Daily Life Free Video Library, one by Barbara Loots and another by Rebecca Kai Dotlich, who is sharing her love of words. Lastly, David also announced the Word of the Month poetry challenge for December, inviting poets to submit poems inspired by the word “time.”
DreamBeast Poems
Over at the DreamBeast Poems blog, Mark Bird, has a funny Nativity poem for children about a child who always plays the Christmas tree.
Imagine the Possibilities
Rose Cappelli at the Imagine the Possibilities blog reflected on a busy Thanksgiving holiday and a literacy conference, which led to a poem about storytelling.
Joshua Seigal
Joshua Seigal offers a creative writing activity idea for younger children about adventure poems using exciting verbs. He also discusses his poem, “Here We All Are,” which explores family history, and shares another blog post called “Isn’t It Weird” and a humorous poem about a chicken, “Cocky.”
