This Morning at School
A funny thing happened
this morning at school.
I thought it was awesome.
I thought it was cool.
I woke up this morning
and rolled out of bed,
exhausted and sleepy
and feeling half-dead.
I barely could manage
to stay on my feet,
and wandered to school
all wrapped up in my sheet.
I thought that my teacher
would send me away
or ask why I dressed
in a bedsheet today.
Or maybe my classmates
would whisper and stare,
but nobody noticed;
they just didn’t care.
It seems they were all so
exhausted and beat
that everyone came to school
dressed in a sheet!

About This Poem
As a student, I remember being so tired in school some days that I would fall asleep at my desk and the teacher would have to wake me up. I was never so tired in the morning that I went to school in my pajamas or bedsheet or blankets. But a friend of mine actually did this once when she was in college. She was so sleepy that she woke up at the very last minute, wrapped her sheet around herself and walked to class.
Recalling this recently, I thought it might be funny to write a poem about it. I hope you enjoy it.
