While Lying on the Lawn
From the book A Festival for Frogs
While lying on lawn at school
I saw a cloud float by.
It looked just like my math book
as it drifted through the sky.
Another cloud went gliding by;
erasers and some glue.
I saw my backpack amble past.
My calculator too.
I watched in wordless wonder
as the gentle breezes blew,
while clouds that looked like binders
and construction paper flew.
The school bell rang and startled me.
I woke up on the grass.
Just like a cloud, I’d drifted off.
I’d better get to class.
