Nate the Creative
From the book My Cat Knows Karate
I’m Nate the Creative
and here’s what I do:
I wake up each day and
create something new.
I might bake a pickle
and skyscraper pie.
I might take a nickel
and teach it to fly.
I might paint a picture
of checkerboard cheese,
or fashion a statue
from typewriter keys.
Or dream up a dance
where you stand very still,
or buy all of France
with a nine-dollar bill.
So look all you want
but you won’t ever see
a person on earth
as creative as me.
Tomorrow, I might make
a hat out of you.
I’m Nate the Creative.
It’s just what I do.

About This Poem
It has been said that, "There's a fine line between genius and insanity." The most creative people are often considered to be geniuses by some and insane by others. I have a number of friends who are artists, people I would consider to be very creative. They often think up new and original things, some of which are very unusual. For example, I have a friend who bought a lot of old manual typewriters and took them apart, using the pieces to make new sculptures. Some people think this is very clever and creative. Other people think it's just bizarre and strange. But what if someone was so creative that they were able to do things that are completely impossible? Maybe they would be hailed as a genius, or maybe they would be considered crazy.
