My Brother’s Insistent
From the book A Festival for Frogs
My brother’s insistent.
Whenever we play,
he always insists that
we do things his way.
He’s good at insisting.
When we disagree,
he has to insist he
knows better than me.
He’s always insisted
that he should go first,
insisted he’s best, and
insisted I’m worst.
He also insists that
he’s right and I’m wrong,
insisting consistently
all morning long.
My brother’s insistence…
it might be my bad.
They misunderstood when
I told mom and dad
I wanted some siblings,
and, like a tongue-twister,
they thought that I asked for
a brother insister.
