My Family Portrait

This Draw and Describe worksheet features the playful poem “My Family Portrait,” in which a child paints a silly, mistake-filled picture of their family that turns out to be a surprising success. After reading the poem, students are invited to create their own family portrait on the back of the page and then write about what is happening in their drawing. This activity builds reading comprehension, fosters creativity through both art and writing, and encourages students to see mistakes as part of the creative process. The humorous take on family life makes it especially fun and relatable for grades 3-5.
