A Funny Vacation Poem for Kids
From the book The Elephant Repairman
We went on vacation,
my family and I.
We got on an airplane
and flew through the sky.
We got off the airplane
and boarded a bus
that went to where taxis
were waiting for us.
We hopped in a taxi
and drove to the shore,
then rode in a boat
for an hour or more.
The boat dropped us off
and we climbed on a train
that went to the airport.
We got on a plane.
The plane took us home.
What a boring vacation!
We didn’t see anything;
just transportation.

About This Poem
Have you ever gone on a road trip and felt like you spent a lot more time in the car than you did actually enjoying your vacation? Sometimes when I travel, it feels like I spend more time on the airplane, subway, and taxis than I do sightseeing or relaxing.
So I thought, wouldn’t it be funny if you went on a long vacation, but all you did was get on one mode of transportation after another until you eventually ended up back at home? Of course, that would never happen, but sometimes it’s fun to exaggerate to the point of silliness.
