A Funny Valentine's Day Poem for Kids
From the book My Cat Knows Karate
Chocolate assortments
and little pink hearts.
Hershey’s Kiss Roses
and sour SweeTarts.
All of these candies
arrived with some cards,
sending me mushy
romantic regards.
Valentine’s Day,
what a troublesome date.
Don’t like the cards,
but the candy is great!

About This Poem
I like to think this poem speaks for itself. On Valentine's Day, it's common to give mushy cards saying things like "I Love You" and "Be My Valentine" but it's also traditional to give chocolates and heart-shaped candies. When I was a kid, I loved the candy, but I thought the cards were dumb, and sometimes even embarrassing. I would have been just as happy getting the candy with no cards at all. So I wrote this poem to express that sentiment. Wouldn't Valentine's Day be better if we just used it as an excuse to give each other candy, and forgot all about the yucky love stuff?
